Hustlers roster full of local players

The Lexington Hustlers baseball club has unveiled the roster for its second season in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League.

The Hustlers literally had to hustle in their first season, because the club was formed after most teams in the league had filled their 2010 rosters.

General Manager Adam Revelette had no such handicap in assembling the 2011 squad. Included are 20 players from Kentucky. Eleven players return from last year's team.

Kentucky schools represented are UK, Louisville, Eastern Kentucky, Western Kentucky, Morehead State, Northern Kentucky, Campbellsville, Georgetown and St. Catharine.

One of the players is 2010 Mr. Baseball in Kentucky, UK freshman J.T. Riddle, a RHP/IF out of Western Hills High School. Riddle was a 2010 Major League draft pick, along with Hustlers OF Ronald Cotton (Boone Co., Cincinnati).

Other notables include: Kentucky RHP Sam Kidd, a 2009 draft pick; LHP Tanner Perkins (Rockcastle County/Western Kentucky) and RHP Brandon Boling (Bryan Station/Gardner Webb).

The Hustlers finished 12-27 last year.

■ The Hustlers will host a casino night Saturday, 6 p.m. until midnight, at Champions sports complex in Nicholasville. Proceeds will benefit the Hustlers and Kentucky Baseball Club.
