Ashland team wins state tourney

The 56th Kentucky State Bowling Association Tournament concluded Nov. 20 at Lexington's Joyland Bowl. The team title went to the T's from Ashland with a 3,381 handicapped total. Buck Wiedeman and Ricky Brooks of Rineyville won the doubles crown with a 1,509 handicapped total. Jeff Claywell of Burkesville claimed the singles crown with an 801 handicapped total. Claywell also won the all-events handicapped with a 2,198 total.

High-scoring night

Two local bowlers had a big night Nov. 18 in the Friday Night Fun League at Collins Bowling Centers-Eastland. Kenny Stephens posted an 840 series, and Bill Short tossed an 822, highlighted by a 300 game. Stephens came close to 300, rolling a 297 in the second game. The two 800s bring the season's total to four, and the perfect game is the 13th of the season.
