The year's first major tennis tournament, the Australian Open, gets underway in Melbourne. Novak Djokovic of Serbia is the No. 1 men's seed. Victoria Azarenka of Belarus tops the women. Both are defending champions in this event. (6:30 p.m., ESPN2)
The Kentucky women's basketball team tries to extend its school-record 14-game winning streak in a potentially troublesome visit to Missouri on Sunday. The Southeastern Conference newcomers are 11-0 at home this season. (1:30 p.m., ESPNU). The Wildcats return home Thursday to take on Mississippi State, a team Kentucky has beaten five consecutive times. (7 p.m., WLAP-AM 630) Tuesday, Saturday
The Kentucky men's basketball team plays its third game in six days when Tennessee visits Rupp Arena on Tuesday. The Cats have won five in a row against the Vols, who have not won in Lexington since 2006. (7 p.m., ESPN). Kentucky closes the week with a visit to Auburn. UK has won 13 in a row against Auburn and has not lost there since 2000. (9 p.m., ESPNU)
The UK gymnastics team hosts its annual Excite Night meet in Memorial Coliseum. (7 p.m.)
No. 3 Louisville hosts No. 7 Syracuse in a collision of Big East Conference basketball powers. One of the few bright spots in the decimation of the Big East is that this rivalry will live on in the Atlantic Coast Conference. (4 p.m., ESPN)
Keeneland-based Wise Dan is a finalist in three categories, including Horse of the Year, for the 2012 Eclipse Awards, which will be unveiled at Gulfstream Park. A big night could also be in store for Kentucky-based Dale Romans, who is a finalist for outstanding trainer and has Eclipse finalists in Little Mike, Shackleford and Tapitsfly. (8 p.m., HRTV)
