Ohio man rolls 300, 800 in Open Championships

Dean Billings of Rootstown, Ohio, rolled the first 800 series of the 2013 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships on May 8 at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev.

Bowling in the team event, Billings had games of 224-289-300 for an 813 series. The 800 is his first in 26 years of competing in the Open Championships. The perfect game is his second, having rolled one in the team event in the 2000 tournament in Albuquerque, N.M.

Billings is only the 32nd bowler in Open history to roll both an 800 and a 300 in the event.

He's also the 27th bowler to roll more than one 300 in the Open Championships.

■ The Greater Lexington USBC will hold its annual meeting and luncheon at noon Saturday, May 18, at the Ramada Inn on North Broadway. Tickets are $20.
