Southeastern to play Australia in ‘Iron Bracket’

Max Vandyke drove in four runs as the Southeastern 12-year-old All-Stars capped Cal Ripken World Series pool play with a 7-2 victory over the Mid Atlantic representative on Wednesday in Aberdeen, Md.

David Castleberry and Collier Combs combined to limit Mid Atlantic to three hits in six innings.

Despite the victory, Southeastern, representing the Ohio Valley, finished third in its division with a 2-2 record and did not advance to the championship bracket. Southeastern will move on to the “Iron Bracket” on Thursday to face Australia. The game starts at 12:30 p.m.

“We want to go out on a winning note and win that last game, whichever game that may be,” Southeastern All-Stars Manager Steven Ryan said.<EP>The Southeastern Cal Ripken League is based in Lexington at Veterans Park.
