Lyric groundbreaking set for 10 a.m. Thursday
Ground breaking for the Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center will be 10 a.m. Thursday with Mayor Jim Newberry.
The theater was once an entertainment hub for the black community where artists like Ray Charles and Duke Ellington performed. It opened in 1948 and closed in 1963. The ground breaking will be at the theater, at the corner of East Third Street and Elm Tree Lane.
