More changes are on the way at The Mall at Lexington Green: Longtime restaurants Regatta Seafood Grille and Tony Roma's are closing.
Regatta's final day of operation will be Saturday, according to owner Bluegrass Hospitality Group, which runs it and other restaurants including Malone's and Drake's.
The company did not elaborate on its decision to close the seafood restaurant in a statement it issued but noted employees were offered positions at other BHG locations.
A new restaurant will be opening in the same space in spring 2013, said Scott Davidson, director of operations for mall owner and manager Langley Properties.
Davidson declined to go into details about the type of restaurant or its ownership. In the company's statement, BHG executives noted the new restaurant will have "no affiliation with the current brand."
Meanwhile, Tony Roma's closed at the end of October. Davidson said it was the decision of the chain, whose spokesperson could not be reached for comment.
Davidson said the mall management will look to replace it with a high-end clothing retailer, which follows a strategy to reinvent the development as a fashion center.
Earlier this year, Langley Properties announced it had signed Anthropologie to open early next year in the former Disc Jockey space. Signings since then have included Ann Taylor Loft and Hot Mama.
The redevelopment of the center has been in the works for more than two years and was linked to a consultant's study suggesting that it focus on fashion tenants.
Among the other changes to the site has been installation of two fountains, new irrigation systems linked to the lake in the rear, and sidewalks replaced with brick pavers and colored concrete.
Shopping center anchor Joseph-Beth Booksellers also has conducted a full makeover that includes concentrating all children's operations on the lower lakeside level and remodeling its Brontë Bistro restaurant.
