Shorty's Urban Market, 163 West Short Street, reopened Monday with a new owner.
The downtown grocery and deli, which closed in September after opening with much fanfare in May 2011, will sell groceries, deli food and take-home prepared meals.
Once a liquor license has been secured, Shorty's Tap Room will open next door, serving local beer and spirits, said the new owner, Bob Estes, who also owns the nearby Parlay Social club on West Short Street.
"I think it's turned out really well," Estes said of the market's renovation, which he began in November. "We have high hopes for it. We think everyone's going to be pleased."

Initially, Shorty's plans to be open 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Shorty's has hired Helida Cindric as its chef. She previously worked for Annette's Catering, Phil Dunn and The Red Mile Clubhouse. The market's general manager is Peter Beattie, a specialty-foods veteran who previously worked for Liquor Barn in Lexington and at Balducci's and Fairway Market in New York.
