The Tennessee Gas Pipeline is suspended over the Dix River and Herrington Lake between Garrard and Boyle counties. The line, most of which is underground, was completed in 1944 as a part of a wartime effort to supply natural gas to the Northeast. Under a proposal, the line would be converted to transport natural gas liquids, and the flow would be reversed to move product from the Northeast. The proposal would also bury this segment of line in the rock beneath the lake.
