Juvenile pleads not guilty to adult murder charge in UK student's shooting death

The juvenile charged as an adult with murder and robbery in the shooting death of a University of Kentucky student pleaded not guilty Friday during his arraignment in Fayette Circuit Court.

Judge Ernesto Scorsone set a $1 million bond for Roman Gonzalez Jr., 17, after the prosecution requested at least $250,000 due to the crime's violence.

Jonathan Krueger, 22, died when he was shot multiple times during an apparent robbery as he walked home with friend Aaron Gillette on East Maxwell Street about 2 a.m. April 17.

Justin D. Smith, 18, and Efrain Diaz Jr., 20, also were charged with murder and first-degree robbery.

Smith was also charged with tampering with evidence and evading police. Smith and Diaz have pleaded not guilty.

Gonzalez is next due in court July 31.
