Here's why Lexington schools are closed Monday
All Fayette County Public Schools will be closed on Monday.
School officials made the announcement shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday.
District spokeswoman Lisa Deffendall said the decision was made based on a weather forecast calling for a mix of ice, snow and rain that could make the Monday morning commute treacherous.
Students are getting a four-day weekend because of the weather. Schools also were closed Friday.
