4-year-old child pulled down a flight of stairs; Lexington man arrested
A Lexington man who admitted to pulling a child down a flight of stairs has been arrested, police said.
Carl Carpenter, 38, told police he pulled the victim down the stairs by one arm about 3:45 p.m. Thursday, according to court records.
Lexington Police Sgt. Ann Welch said officers responded to a call of an unresponsive 4-year-old, who was found and taken to a hospital.
Carpenter was arrested on unrelated warrants and was later charged with criminal abuse. The Crimes Against Children Unit and Forensic Services were assisting in the investigation, Welch said.
Drug use is suspected, according to the arrest report.
Carpenter is to be arraigned at 1 p.m.
Welch said she could not comment on the status of the child.
