Police: Waco man ransomed himself for $150

Police in Richmond said a Waco man lied about being kidnapped, then demanded a $150 ransom from relatives.

Austin M. Kaylor’s family members told police the 20-year-old told them he was being held prisoner on somewhere Ballard Drive in Richmond, police said.

Police said they tracked down Kaylor at an address on Ballard Drive, and he tried to run before admitting to the hoax.

Kaylor told police that the ransom had to be delivered by a certain time or he would be killed, and that he planned to use the ransom money to buy drugs, police said.

Kaylor was charged with falsely reporting an incident, disorderly conduct, theft by deception and fleeing police. He was taken to Madison County Detention Center.
