Barn, farm equipment destroyed in Central Kentucky fire, officials say
A barn in Jessamine County was destroyed by a fire on Wednesday.
Assistant Chief Danny Eads with the Jessamine County Fire District said firefighters were dispatched to 1560 E. Hickman Road Wednesday for a report of a barn on fire. The barn was fully involved in flames upon arrival.
The barn and the equipment inside – 250 hay bales, a tractor and a zero turn mower – were completely destroyed, according to Eads. No injuries were reported.
Investigators believe the fire started when hot exhaust from the mower sparked a hay bale, Eads said. The mower was backed into the barn as it started raining in the area.
Eads said the fire was under control within 30 to 45 minutes of firefighters arriving. The fire department stayed on scene for several hours extinguishing the fire.
