A 7-year-old boy died of a suspected drowning Monday at an aquatic center in Richmond.

The incident happened around 1:45 p.m. at Paradise Cove pool in Lake Reba, and the boy died at Baptist Health Richmond, said Madison County Coroner Jimmy Cornelison.

Cornelison said the death was a suspected drowning, pending the results of an autopsy.

The boy was identified Tuesday as Santino Montreal Yancey-Hardwick, of Lexington.

In a social media post, the city of Richmond said the pool, on Lake Reba Drive, would be closed for an “undetermined” amount of time.

“The City of Richmond is deeply saddened to learn that the child involved in today’s incident at Paradise Cove has tragically passed away at the hospital,” the post read.

The Richmond Police Department is working with the pool management company to gather information.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the child’s family during this incredibly difficult time,” the post read.
