Undercover narcotics officer kills Montgomery County man

An undercover narcotics officer, acting in self-defense, shot and killed a Montgomery County man Thursday, according to Kentucky State Police in Morehead.

The officer shot Terry A. Pruitt, 45, of 940 Science Ridge Road, near Jeffersonville, during a drug investigation, said trooper Endre Samu, public affairs officer for the state police post in Morehead.

Samu said the Buffalo Trace Narcotics Squad had gone to Pruitt's home to serve a warrant on Pruitt.

Pruitt took an "offensive position" towards the officer, and the officer took a "defensive position, which resulted in a shooting, and the suspect is now deceased," Samu said.

No one else was hurt.
