Fayette County sheriff's office warns of jury-duty scam

The Fayette County sheriff's office is warning people about a scam in which someone claiming to be with the sheriff's office is calling people and telling them that they have failed to report for jury duty and owe a fine of more than $400.

The caller has been threatening to come to the citizens' houses and arrest them if they don't "immediately purchase a money card," according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office said it had received "several phone calls" Friday night about the scam.

Anyone who has received such a call is urged to call the sheriff's office immediately at 252-1771.
