Lexington man is indicted on a murder charge in the stabbing death of his boyfriend
A Fayette County grand jury indicted a man Tuesday on a charge of murder in the stabbing death of his boyfriend.
Matthew Patrick Donaghy is accused in the Jan. 18 stabbing of Todd Schumacher, according to an indictment in circuit court on Tuesday.
The stabbing happened shortly before 7:30 p.m. at a house in the 500 block of Lamont Drive. Schumacher, 40, was found with multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to court documents, Donaghy, 20, "obtained a dangerous instrument and assaulted the victim."
In September, Donaghy was charged with mistreatment of an animal for allegedly putting Schumacher's dog in a hot oven. The animal suffered multiple burns, according to information filed in that case.
Donaghy was being held in the Fayette County jail on a $500,000 bail. He's scheduled to appear in court March 12.
