Bill and Melinda Gates visit Floyd County high school
Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates visited a Floyd County school Wednesday, WYMT reported.
Officials at Betsy Layne High School had prepared for weeks to expect a visit from "foundation leadership" of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, principal Cassandra Akers told WYMT.
"'Foundation leadership' ended up being Bill and Melinda Gates," Akers said.
The Gateses spent the day observing students and teachers.
"They talked to (Superintendent Henry) Webb and I this morning for a little while, just about how Kentucky core academic standards have rolled down to the schools from the state level," Akers told the TV station.
Gates, 60, is the richest man in the world, Forbes magazine said earlier this year. The magazine's website said his net worth is more than $79 billion.
The couple's foundation supports education and other initiatives on a global scale.
