A 17-year-old has drowned in Lake Cumberland, the Russell County coroner said Tuesday.

Tyler Grant, 17, of Jamestown, was swimming with friends in the Clifty Creek area of the lake when he went under, Mark Coots, Russell County coroner, said. The drowning was reported around 5 p.m. Monday. Grant was recovered by divers from Jamestown Fire and Rescue.

Lake Cumberland touches about six Kentucky counties.

Coots said Grant’s death is the third drowning in his area of the lake after two international students drowned in Lake Cumberland in early June. Additionally, Coots said there was another drowning in January, but that incident was in a nearby river instead of the lake.
