Ex-Cat Derek Abney named to football writers' 75th anniversary All-American team

The Football Writers Association of America has come out with its 75th anniversary All-American team and former University of Kentucky wide receiver Derek Abney made the list as third-team return specialist.

Abney was placed behind Nebraska’s Johnny Rodgers and Notre Dame’s Rocket Ismail. The 75 players on the list came from 41 schools.

Abney was the only player from UK to make the list.

Abney played at UK from 2000 through 2003. He caught 197 passes for 2,339 yards and 18 touchdowns. He averaged 24.4 yards per 95 kickoff returns with two touchdowns. He averaged 11.8 yards per 88 punt returns with six touchdowns.
