No. 11 Kentucky staged a rally in the seventh inning and held on to beat host Louisville and win the Battle of the Bluegrass 2-1.

Katie Reed’s one-out single started the comeback, but the Cats needed some help after Sylver Samuel fouled out for the second out. Nikki Sagermann got on through a fielding error to give UK runners at first and second. Abbey Cheek’s base hit tied the game and a wild pitch to Brooklin Hinz put Cats on second and third. Hinz then singled up the middle to bring home Sagermann for the go-ahead run. Kelsey Nunley finished off the Cards in order in their half of the seventh to improve to 19-5.

After giving up a run in the second, Nunley retired 10 Cardinals in a row. In the sixth, U of L threatened with runners on second and third before lightning delayed the game for 54 minutes. When play resumed, Nunley coaxed a lineout and a grounder to keep UK in the game.
