Vols’ Rodgers drives in 8 in 14-5 rout of Cats
Baseball: Jordan Rodgers hit for the cycle and drove in eight runs, leading Tennessee to a 14-5 victory over Kentucky on Friday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in Knoxville.
The Cats (18-8, 4-3 Southeastern Conference) fell behind 9-0 before scoring five in the eighth inning, including a two-run homer from Gunnar McNeill. The Vols answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning, including a three-run home run by Rodgers.
McNeill extended his hitting streak to a program record 21 games with a 2-for-4 game. Complete records for UK games date to 2002, and McNeill bested a 20-game streak in 2004 from former catcher Caleb Stewart. Evan White also extended his hit streak to 19 games with a two-run double.
UK starter Zack Brown (1-5) worked five innings, allowing 10 hits and nine runs while walking one and striking out five.
Men’s tennis: No. 19 Kentucky defeated Southeastern Conference opponent Tennessee 5-2 in Knoxville. It was UK’s fourth win in its last five matches.
Freshman Enzo Wallart closed out the match for the Cats with a three-set victory — 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 — that gave them an insurmountable 4-0 advantage.
