2016 Lexington All-City girls’ soccer team
Lexington Catholic junior Kennedy Tranter, a University of Kentucky commit, received five of a possible seven first-place votes to easily be named Lexington Girls’ Soccer Player of the Year.
Molly Mohr, a Paul Laurence Dunbar junior, did not receive a first-place vote but finished second to Tranter in the balloting of Lexington’s eight girls’ soccer coaches. Lexi Sheely, a Lexington Christian junior, was third in the vote.
Lexington Catholic led the way with three players — Tranter, Maggie Corbett and Austin Wahle — on the All-City first team. The Knights play Owensboro Catholic in the state semifinals Wednesday night at Bryan Station.
Henry Clay, Paul Laurence Dunbar and Tates Creek all had two players named to the first team. Bryan Station and Lexington Christian each had one player named to the first team.
How the voting worked: Coaches were asked to submit up to five of their players as nominations. Those nominations were then compiled and sent to each of the coaches, who were asked to rank their top 11 players from that list without selecting any of their own players. Point values were assigned based upon the rank (one point for first place, two points for second place, etc.) and players were assigned a spot on the All-City team based on their total point value (players received 12 points for each ballot they did not appear on except for their own coach’s submission).
