Scott County's Hicks launches scholarship in memory of his son
Scott County boys' basketball coach Billy Hicks will honor the memory of his son Tyler by establishing a scholarship in his name.
Tyler was all-state player at Scott County and led the Cardinals to the Sweet Sixteen in 2004. He was killed in a car accident in October, 2012.
"I had to do something, and this is doing something good to remember him," Billy Hicks said.
Scott County is hosting a dinner/fundraiser for the scholarship fund Saturday at 6 p.m. at the high school. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at Whitaker Bank locations and Kroger's in Georgetown.
Billy Hicks plans to award a scholarship to a Scott County senior athlete or athletic support staff member. The scholarship would be for $5,000 per year for four years.
Hicks will use money generated by his summer camps to help fund the scholarships.
Tax-deductible donations can be made to The Cardinal Sports Club Inc., c/o Tyler Hicks Memorial Scholarship, P.O. Box 68, Georgetown, KY, 40324.
"I'm going to make this thing go. I have to, for Tyler," he said.
