Kentucky Derby

Trump, Spielberg, Nicholson & more: photos of past Kentucky Derby celebrities

The Kentucky Derby is almost upon us, and along with horses, roses and mint juleps, one thing you can always count on is celebrities.

For years politicians, musicians, movie stars and now reality TV stars ascend upon Churchill Downs in Louisville for the horses, and of course, the parties. Some like to hide from the spotlight (Tom Brady) while others like to bask in it (Joey Fatone). Some are A-list celebrities (Jack Nicholson), while others are further — way further — down the alphabet (we’re looking at you Richard Grieco). Some — including Steven Spielberg and M.C. Hammer — have even had horses that ran in “the most exciting two minutes in sports.”

So as you get ready to see who makes their way from Hollywood to Louisville this weekend, take a look back in this gallery at some of the celebrities who have joined in on singing My Old Kentucky Home on the first Saturday in May.

And if you are a fan of going down memory lane, be sure to check out our historical photo blog, KyPhotoArchive.com. Our vault of images on the blog is updated daily, showcasing nearly a century of Lexington and Kentucky history. And be sure to follow them on Twitter @KYPhotoArchive.
