This Lexington hotel has been rated one of 100 World’s Greatest Places. Here’s why.
A luxury retreat in snowy Antarctica.
A hotel built over an ancient mudbrick village in a Saudi Arabian oasis.
Bamboo structures where visitors can sleep in the Indonesian jungle.
And a new boutique hotel in Lexington’s Distillery District.
All are among the 100 World’s Greatest Places, as rated by TIME.
The Manchester, a 125-room hotel that opened last year at 941 Manchester St., made the magazine’s 2024 list of Places to Stay. There’s an accompanying list of Places to Visit.
The seven-story hotel is built on the same site as Lexington’s first distillery and features custom furnishings evoking the city’s bourbon and horse industries.
TIME praised the “elevated Appalachian cooking” of executive chef Paula Endara at the hotel’s Granddam restaurant and plugged stops along the nearby Town Branch Trail.
A post on The Manchester’s Facebook page said the hotel is “honored to be included” in the list.
“Putting Lexington on the map!” the post stated.
For those who want to experience the wonders of the World’s Greatest Places without having to hop on a plane or sail around the world, there’s another option close to home in addition to The Manchester.
The Wayback, a newly opened hotel “inspired by retro roadside motels and mid-century modern architecture” in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, also made the list.
TIME said it chose the World’s Greatest Places “with an eye toward those offering new and exciting experiences” based on applications, as well as nominations “from its international network of correspondents and contributors.”
