Opening date set for Lexington’s second Publix grocery store
Lexington’s second Publix grocery store will open in less than one month.
Publix announced Tuesday its second location will have its grand opening at 7 a.m. June 4. The grocery store is on Fountainblue Lane in the Fountains at Palomar.
“We are thrilled to open our second location in Lexington, KY,” Jared Glover, Publix’s media relations manager, said in a news release. “We encourage customers to start their shopping trip at our Pours café, where they can enjoy a cup of coffee or any of our delicious drinks, or hang out and refresh with an acai bowl or smoothie.”
The store will include a 55,701-square-foot supermarket and a next-door Publix Liquors store, according to Publix spokesperson Jared Glover. About 140 employees will work at the store.
The first Lexington Publix store on Stockton Way, just off Citation Boulevard, opened March 5. Publix is an employee-owned, Florida-based grocery store chain known for its signature deli sandwiches, called Pub Subs.
A third Publix is scheduled to open in the Romany Road/Chevy Chase area, although a grand opening date has not been set. The third store will include two levels of underground parking.
Publix is also planning to open a location in nearby Nicholasville, and it already has a Louisville location.
The Herald-Leader conducted a price comparison experiment and found relatively higher prices at Publix, though Publix fans often say the quality and selection, clean facilities and customer service are well worth the trade-off.
The store also offers many other services, including a pharmacy, online ordering and floral services.
