Kentucky’s Queer Bourbon Week is back after last year’s inaugural edition, featuring events in Lexington, Louisville, Paducah and Northern Kentucky.
The event, put on by Queer Kentucky, the state’s only dedicated LGBTQ news publication, runs Oct. 3-5. The three-day event celebrates the queer and bourbon communities and is the only LGBTQ inclusive bourbon week in the country, according to the event’s website.
“Last year showed us just how much appetite there is for connection, celebration, and storytelling through bourbon,” Missy Spears, executive director of Queer Kentucky, said in a news release. “With just one week to go, we’re ready to raise the bar again and welcome everyone into this statewide celebration.”
This year’s event will feature exclusive distillery tours, drag performances, silent discos and brunches with a twist.
In Lexington, there will be a craft night, a coffee date night and a book swap event at Lussi Brown Coffee Bar; tour and tasting events RD1 Distillery and the distillery district on Manchester Street; and a special poetry reading event by former Kentucky Poet Laureate Silas House at the Willow.
“Bourbon is beloved because it is steeped in a commitment to authenticity, has been survived by generations of storytellers and fosters a deep sense of community. That’s why Queer people work in Bourbon and it’s why Queer people love to drink Bourbon — Bourbon & Belonging is a celebration of that,” Melissa Rift, master taster at Old Forester, said in a news release.
All proceeds benefit Queer Kentucky. People can view the full schedule and grab tickets on the event’s website.
