Barry Manilow Makes First Public Appearance After Lung Cancer Surgery

Barry Manilow has been photographed in public for the first time since he underwent a lobectomy to treat lung cancer.

In the photos taken on Friday, Apr. 24, the singer was seen smiling while exiting a car in New York City. The outing comes four months after his surgery in December 2025 following his diagnosis with stage 1 lung cancer a month prior.

Manilow first announced his cancer diagnosis via Instagram on Dec. 22, 2025.

"As many of you know, I recently went through six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks," the "Copacabana" singer wrote at the time. "Even though I was over the bronchitis and back on stage at the Westgate Las Vegas, my wonderful doctor ordered an MRI just to make sure that everyone was OK. The MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that needs to be removed. It's pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early. That's the good news."

He added, "The bad news is that now that the Christmas A Gift of Love concerts are over, I'm going into surgery to have the spot removed. The doctors do not believe it has spread and I'm taking tests to confirm their diagnosis. So, that's it. No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns."

In January, Manilow shared another health update to Instagram, letting fans know he was "Better Today!" with a smiling selfie in his hospital gown.

The next month, he announced on Instagram that he had a "very depressing visit" with his surgeon, and would need to postpone more tour dates because his "lungs [weren 't] ready yet."

Manilow was also forced to cancel concerts in April 2026 due to ongoing health concerns. However, he still plans to head to Las Vegas for a residency running from May 7 to Dec. 19, 2026.

He also plans to release his first brand-new album in 15 years, What A Time, on June 5, 2026.
