Genshin Impact Reveals Plans For Snezhnaya, Version 7.0 Set To Release On August 12
The developers behind Genshin Impact have recently unveiled a sneak peek into the inner workings of the game's upcoming region-Snezhnaya. A mysterious, frigid land referenced throughout the game's history, Snezhnaya is home to the Cryo Archon, the Tsaritsa, and her loyal army of the north, the Fatui. Here is a quick showcase of what HoYoverse has shown us so far, and what it means for players as we inch closer towards the end of Teyvat.
The Cold Takes Over
While we already experienced a glimpse of the northern landscape with Nod-Krai's tundra-like environments, the land of Snezhnaya is closer to that of Dragonspine: a paradise of eternal snow for creatures suited to the freezing environment. Snezhnaya is Teyvat's Siberia-a vast swath of jagged terrain, conifer forests, and mystical beings called ‘Fae' which inhabit most of the game's snowy regions. In fact, the Traveler already knows two Fae companions with Snezhnayan origins-Flins and Linnea.
Even amidst the brutal sub-zero conditions, the area is home to the most powerful and technologically advanced region of Teyvat. The Fatui has already shown its extensive influence, power, and advanced tech since the beginning of our journey in Mondstadt, and Snezhnaya is the final culmination of it.
Improved Systems, Smoother Gameplay
Over the years, Genshin Impact has made immense progress in how it handled region-specific mechanics, including QoL. Scaling the heights of Mondstadt and Liyue was overall an arduous process, with only the Traveler's Geo constructs and other abilities to assist the player when traversing terrain. Throughout the next several regions, environmental mechanics were added to improve exploration, including new additions within Mondstadt's latest expansion, Dorman Port.
The goal is to let players, through shared interaction patterns, produce a wider variety of outcomes from a unified set of mechanics.
In Snezhnaya, the developers have stated that they will grant players a region-specific tool with a highly unique function. This tool will serve as a Swiss Army knife, assisting players with interaction, navigation, and exploration within the region.
At the moment, Snezhnaya seems to be the Traveler's last destination in Teyvat. The developers haven't entertained anything yet about the finale of the overarching story, implying that there are still more places to explore, whether it's beneath, above, or beyond Teyvat. And if you need more proof of that, we even got our feet on the moon before we experienced the calm breeze of Mondstadt's Dorman Port.
