Should You Pull For Mejiro Palmer In Umamusume Pretty Derby?

Mejiro Palmer debuts as a playable trainee in Umamusume, available in a rate-up scout banner from May 10 to May 20 (UTC) alongside SSR Rice Shower and Matikanefukukitaru rerun banners. Let's review her skills, in-game strength, and meta viability.

Mejiro Palmer Stats And Skills

Mejiro Palmer is a Front Runner for Medium and Long distance tracks. She is also the second trainee who has access to [Runaway] after Silence Suzuka. She has 10% stat growth in Speed, Stamina, and Guts, which suits the high endurance requirements of Runaway strategies.

Unique SkillEffect

Keep Pushing Ahead

If positioned toward the front from the start of the race until the second half of the race, good vibes recover endurance and moderately increase velocity steadily.

Mejiro Palmer's unique skill is tailor-made for a Runaway strategy on longer tracks. [Keep Pushing Ahead] is an effective mid-race speed skill that also heals for an equivalent of a gold recovery skill. Since Runaways spend the most stamina among the racing styles, her unique skill lowers their healing requirement by a large margin.

Potential SkillEffect

Early Lead

Slightly increase ability to go to the front early-race. (Front Runner)

See Ya Later!

Increase velocity when followed by another runner directly behind for a long time.

Long Shot ○

Moderately increase performance when 4th favorite or below.

Vanguard Spirit

Increase ability to maintain the lead when leading by a fair margin mid-race. (Long)

Palmer's potential skills are well-rounded, with each being highly useful in almost all situations. [Early Lead] is a priority pick-up for the early-race, which takes advantage of Front Runners' early positional lead. [See Ya Later!] is the gold version of [Playtime's Over], which is a skill often used to widen the length gap, and can even trigger twice on Long tracks because of its 30s cooldown. [Vanguard Spirit] is a long-distance skill that secures the mid-race lead for Front Runners and is doubly effective on Runaways.

Innate SkillEffect

Playtime's Over!

Slightly increase velocity when followed by another runner directly behind for a long time.

Front Runner Straightaways ○

Slightly increase velocity on a straight. (Front Runner)

Keeping the Lead

Slightly increase ability to maintain the lead when leading by a fair margin mid-race. (Long)

Event SkillEffectNotes

Front Runner Savvy ○

Moderately increase ability to get into a good position. (Front Runner)

Sympathy

Moderately increase performance when many runners share a sympathetic heart.

Runaway

Attempt to gain an especially large lead and keep it until the finish. (Front Runner)

Cannot be obtained in Trackblazer

Should You Pull Analysis

Mejiro Palmer

Strengths

  • Near-exclusive access to [Runaway] skill
  • Strong mid-race skills for Long races

Weaknesses

  • Trackblazer scenario prevents access to Runaway
  • Difficult Trackblazer career due to [F] Mile aptitude
  • Lacks innate acceleration skill for late-race

Mejiro Palmer is a Front Runner brimming with potential, although with a badly-timed release during a scenario where her best trait is inaccessible. Even without [Runaway], training in Trackblazer with [F] Mile requires bringing at least 10 Mile sparks to raise it to [B]. As we all know, [B] Mile is still sub-optimal, notably for Front Runners, and still risks losing Mile races in your career's Junior year.

However, she can perform exceptionally well in Long races on heavy investment, including the top meta cards and well-optimized legacy parents. If you can manage to get the full Front Runner suite for the track (which includes [Groundwork], [Taking The Lead], and appropriate inherits), she can easily snuff out her rivals who are vying to get their proper positions at the late-race spurt.

Rating

Mejiro Palmer - 3.5 / 5

(after Trackblazer) - 4 / 5

F2P Value - Low to Moderate
