Millie Bobby Brown's First Mother's Day Post Had a Special Message for Adoptive Moms
Millie Bobby Brown has spent most of the past year keeping her life as a new mother deliberately private. On Sunday, she stepped into it publicly in a way that was somehow both softer and more meaningful than many celebrity Mother's Day posts manage to be.
Brown, 22, marked her first Mother's Day by sharing an Instagram Story that named and honored nearly a dozen different types of mothers, the hopeful mom-to-be, the exhausted mom, the grieving mom, the single mom, the mom figure who stepped up, and, specifically, the foster or adoptive mom. For Brown, that last category is personal. Last August, she and her husband Jake Bongiovi (son of rock legend Jon Bon Jovi) announced that they had adopted a baby girl, writing on Instagram: 'This summer, we welcomed our sweet baby girl through adoption. We are beyond excited to embark on this beautiful next chapter of parenthood in both peace and privacy.' She was 21 years old at the time.
In the months since, Brown has shared very little about her daughter publicly, a deliberate choice she has discussed in interviews. 'For me, it's really important to protect her and her story until she's old enough to potentially one day share it herself,' she told British Vogue in November 2025. 'It's not my place to purposefully put her in the spotlight unwillingly.' In February, on her 22nd birthday, she posted a rare photo of herself and her daughter at the beach, both in matching teddy bear jackets, writing simply, 'grateful for my husband and daughter. I am so blessed.'
Sunday's Mother's Day post fit the same pattern. Rather than just the photograph, the focus was on the message and the varied list, a deliberate acknowledgment that motherhood takes many forms, and that all of them count. For adoptive families in particular, that kind of recognition from a high-profile figure carries real weight, arriving at a moment when Brown's own story has drawn wide attention to what building a family outside traditional paths can look like. 'Being a mother expedited this version of me,' she told Allure earlier this year. 'Nothing could get in the way of me being who I need to be for my daughter.'

Bongiovi, 24, has been described by Brown as 'the most amazing dad' and the two share parenting equally, by her account. The family lives on a farm in Georgia alongside an assortment of rescue animals that Brown documents with considerably more frequency than her daughter. The Stranger Thingsfranchise that made Brown famous wrapped its final season late last year. Her next major project, Enola Holmes 3, arrives on Netflixon July 1, 2026, where she also serves as a producer.
