DEG Might Be One of The Most Extreme Logic Puzzle Games
Puzzle games often advertise themselves as being about logic, but many eventually fall back on pattern recognition, trial and error, or mechanics that become second nature after a few hours. DEG seems determined to strip all of that away.
Developed and published by Doseo, the upcoming indie title describes itself as a "pure puzzle Metroidvania" where logical reasoning is the only tool players have available. No combat, no platforming, and apparently no mechanics beyond interacting with puzzle boards and figuring out the rules that govern them. It is the kind of concept that sounds deceptively simple until you start looking at what the game is actually trying to do.
According to its Steam page, DEG contains more than 50 puzzle types and over 600 handcrafted puzzles. The developers specifically emphasize that every challenge is based on logic alone, with players solving puzzles by clicking cells and reasoning through the information presented to them.
That description may sound familiar to fans of deduction based puzzle games, but DEG appears to push the idea much further than most.
Learning the Rules Is Part of the Puzzle
One of the most interesting details about DEG is that the game is not simply about solving puzzles. It is also about understanding how the puzzles themselves work. That approach fits neatly with the Metroidvania label attached to the project. While most games in that genre focus on unlocking abilities that open new paths, DEG appears to build progression around knowledge instead. The Steam page describes the experience as exploring unknown puzzles across the game world, suggesting that understanding a mechanic may be just as important as solving any individual challenge.
The game also includes what Doseo calls a rich note taking system designed to help players track information and support logical reasoning. That detail alone says a lot about the intended audience. Puzzle games generally do not need dedicated note systems unless they expect players to spend significant amounts of time analyzing information and testing theories.
DEG is currently scheduled for release in 2026. There are plenty of puzzle games that claim to challenge players. DEG feels more interested in teaching players an entirely new way of thinking first, then seeing whether they can keep up once the real puzzles begin.
