'90s Country Star Teases Update to First New Project in 9 Years
Country superstar Brad Paisley has been busy lately.
The musician's unique and innovative approach to new music began in early May, when he announced on Instagram that he was "building something," accompanied by a picture of a guitar case filled with empty containers and the word "Tacklebox."
Soon, it became apparent that Tacklebox was the name of his upcoming album: his first collection of new music in nine years, other than the Christmas project Snow GlobeTown. It's an evolving project rather than a traditional album, so instead of dropping it all at once, he began releasing one song at a time. It will include unreleased and unrecorded music from the '90s, along with new music inspired by the '80s and '90s.
On June 9, Paisley's Instagram post got his base riled up when he teased the newest song for June 12.
The 'Glass of Bourbon' Clue That Sparked a Fan Frenzy
"New song in the tacklebox this Friday featuring…. Any guesses?" He captioned a photo of someone standing in front of a microphone, holding a drink. "Glass of bourbon while singing narrows it down."
Those in the comments enthusiastically offered their suggestions.
"Alison!!" wrote fellow country singer Chris Housman, referring to Alison Krauss. Other collaborators mentioned were Carrie Underwood, Gretchen Wilson, Megan Moroney, Lainey Wilson, and Miranda Lambert.
Others surmised that the song would be "Whiskey Before Breakfast." "I've been waiting for it since I heard it in the SOTM album trailer," a fan commented. A reply from another fan reinforced the theory: "He's been opening his shows with it for about a year or so now! "Hoping that we'll get a studio cut of it at some point."
From Finland to Friday Drops: What's Next for Brad Paisley
Every Friday, Paisley has been dropping a new single off Tacklebox. So far, we have "Fallin,' "This Town Ain't Small Enough," "Without You," "Hi Ho Silverado" ft. David Lee Murphy, "Overnight Low," and "Helen Back."
Paisley is currently touring, with a stop in Helsinki, Finland, on June 8 and 9. After stops in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Germany, and Switzerland, he'll return to the U.S. to finish out the tour.
