1977 Legendary Rock Anthem Re-Enters Billboard Chart Nearly 50 Years Later

One of the Eagles' most beloved hits has returned to the Billboard charts.

Almost 50 years since the band first released their smash hit single "Hotel California," it re-entered Billboard's Rock Streaming Songs chart this week, bringing its career total up to 286 weeks spent on the chart.

According to new Billboard standings dated the week of June 13, the legendary Eagles track landed at No. 25 on the weekly streaming chart, which ranks the most-streamed rock songs across leading digital music services. The impressive feat proves that even almost 50 years after it was first released, "Hotel California" continues to be a quintessential rock anthem.

And it's not the only Eagles music to resurge on the charts lately, as the band's 1976 compilation album, Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975),recently re-entered the Billboard 200, scoring a spot at No. 113.

"Hotel California" was first introduced to listeners as the title track on the Eagles' fifth studio album of the same name. The band later released it as a single in February 1977, and it quickly became a fan-favorite, debuting on the Billboard Hot 100 the same month and reaching No. 1 just a few months later.

It is one of the Eagles' 5 songs to hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, along with the band's other chart-toppers, "Best of My Love," "One of These Nights," "New Kid in Town" and "Heartache Tonight."

"Hotel California" has secured a spot in music history as one of the rock genre's most iconic songs, and it is frequently included on "best-of" lists ranking the most influential and culture-shifting tracks. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame includedon "Hotel California" on a 2004 curation of "500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll."

The signature Eagles hit was also ranked by Ultimate Classic Rock as the second-best American rock song of all time, behind only "Free Bird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
