Aimee Mann Was in a ‘Hole' When Rush Asked Her to Perform on Tour
Aimee Mann joined Rush during the classic rock band’s four-night opening showing of their Fifty Something tour in Los Angeles. It was a sweet moment, but according to Mann, she almost turned down the gig. Why would anyone turn down Rush, right?
Mann performed with Rush their song “Time Stand Still” from 1987’s “Hold Your Fire.” Amid the performance, the singer took to social media to explain that she almost said no because she wasn’t in a good place at the time.
In the post, Mann shared a hand-drawn comic with the caption, “What I did last week,” where she talked about the experience of performing on the tour.
“Way back in March, I got an email from Geddy Lee, from the band Rush. But I was quite frankly in a … place and couldn't imagine doing it,” she said in the post. “I was in such a hole I couldn’t even answer one way or the other. I knew I’d regret it if I didn’t try.”

So, she finally said that she would do it, and Mann says the band members were “so kind and welcoming.”
“I felt protected by their bubble of music and Canadian warmth, and buoyed aloft by their fans,” she added.
