Sandra Bullock's Birthday Message to Nicole Kidman Fuels ‘Practical Magic 2' Excitement
On June 20, Nicole Kidman turned 59. The prolific actress posted a photo of herself enjoying nature and sunshine along with a caption, "Another trip around the sun." While many of her longtime friends, such as Reese Witherspoon and Naomi Watts, wished her a happy birthday, fans are especially taking notice of Sandra Bullock's Instagram tribute.
A 'Practical Magic 2' Birthday Shoutout
With less than three months to go until the release of Practical Magic 2, many are thrilled that she referenced the film in her sweet birthday shoutout to her co-star and screen sister.
"Happy birthday to my witchy sister," she captioned her video montage. "Call it magic when I'm next to you." Along with a pink heart, she posted a magic wand emoji.
The videos show Kidman, Joey King, Bullock, and what appears to be other cast members dancing and having a great time at a performance at the Las Vegas Sphere. Another shows Kidman and Bullock shooting as Gillian and Sally Owens, hugging and being affectionate. Interspersed throughout are scenes from the upcoming film.
King will portray Kylie Owens in the sequel, a role that was played by Evan Rachel Wood in the 1998 film. King posted her own message to her onscreen aunt. "Happy birthday to the most stunning person outside and in [Nicole Kidman]," she captioned her Instagram story.
'Right Back Into It'
The two actresses hadn't worked with each other on anything since Practical Magic, but they both said that they'd longed to reunite. They called making the sequel a fun experience, with Kidman saying that the duo really are "like sisters."
"We were just right back into it," she told PEOPLE. "I adore her and she is so funny and so lovable. And we're just having the best time together."
In a resurfaced interview, TODAY shared a clip of Bullock talking about their friendship. She stated that the alcohol they consumed during reshoots helped them bond.
"The fact is, we don't have anything in common, except for at the dinner table with a bottle of wine and everything blends sort of together," she explained.
"And Nicole just put the bottle on the table and said, ‘You know what? There's no reason we shouldn't be drunk here.' And I said, ‘You know what? That's true," Bullock added.
Decades after their first pairing, Bullock's birthday message proves that the bond between the Practical Magic sisters remains as strong as ever. With the highly anticipated sequel just around the corner, the genuine affection between Kidman, Bullock, and their new castmates promises a magical return to the screen.
