Summit Fire in Angeles National Forest balloons to 1,600 acres
Evacuations have been issued amid an approximately 1,600-acre brush fire that has crossed into the Angeles National Forest in Southern California, officials said on Friday, July 10.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to a report of a brush fire just before 1 p.m. on Friday. Angeles National Forest said on X that it was assisting the county fire department with a brush fire in Llano, which is located in the northeastern reaches of Los Angeles County.
Both agencies are referring to the fire as the Summit Fire, which quickly ballooned to approximately 1,600 acres after previously being reported at approximately 600 acres, as of a Cal Fire incident update at 3:59 p.m. Friday.
The Angeles National Forest spans hundreds of thousands of acres in Southern California.
The blaze has a rapid rate of spread with structures threatened, Cal Fire said in its 2:44 p.m. update.
"Access and terrain continue to hamper control efforts," Cal Fire said.
