Kentucky singer MaKenzie Thomas showed the judges on “The Voice” the depth of her range on Monday, winning her Knockout Round.

“The Voice” airs Monday and Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. on NBC. The show, now in its 15th season, pits teams of singers selected by celebrity coaches including Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson.

Thomas, of Wallingford in Fleming County, performed the Bee Gees’ hit “How Deep is Your Love,” wowing coach JHud in the first night of the knockouts on the popular singing competition.

Thomas defeated Mike Parker, who performed The Script’s “Breakeven,” to stay on Team Hudson and move on to the next round, the live playoffs.

Her smooth jazzy, deconstructed version showcased her sweet tone and runs that had Clarkson leaning over to say “dang” to Hudson and gasping in amazement. Levine also commented, saying, “damn,” to Clarkson.

“Your one riff, that went to the Lord, said hello ... came back down ... gave me a leg cramp,” Clarkson said. “If I had to choose, I’d definitely go with ‘leg cramp girl,’ MaKenzie.”

Shelton said it is fun to watch Thomas because they all know her history with the show. “We all have a special spot for you because we know of your journey just on this show,” Shelton said. This is Thomas’s second go at “The Voice;” the 20-year-old had auditioned for last season but didn’t get a chair to turn, meaning she didn’t make the cut.

Thomas got to meet one of her idols, five-time Grammy winner Mariah Carey, who was the celebrity advisor. “I fan-girled, basically,” Thomas said. “But at the end of the day, I can say that I met Mariah Carey.”

Carey said that Thomas’s singing made her tear up and praised the song choice.

“You’re making me cry over here,” Carey said. She said she would buy Thomas’s version of the song.

“You feel genuine to me, that’s what I love about her,” Carey said.

In the end, it was Carey who helped to tip the victory to Thomas: “She made Mariah Carey cry,” Hudson said after she declared her the winner.
