Lexington Music Awards, free Cosmik Fries, ‘The Princess and The Peas’ highlight the weekend

MMF Announcement Party

The Master Musicians Festival will unveil the lineup for its 27th annual July gathering on Jan. 24 at Jarfly Brewing in Somerset at 6 p.m. with live music from Johnny Conqueroo, Mama Said String Band and Eric Bolander along with “The Future is Now” telethon fundraiser for the event. In past years the summertime staple has played host to the likes of John Prine, Billy Strings, Willie Nelson and Amanda Shires, among others. Lexington Detective Day

CluedUpp, the exciting outdoor detective game similar to a giant version of the board-game Clue, comes to Lexington on Jan. 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for “Sneaky Finders,” a “Peaky Blinders” inspired murder-mystery that will see over 100 teams compete to catch a “killer.” Tickets are $48 for a team of up to six people with children under 16 able to play for free. cluedupp.com.

Hopcat 12th Anniversary

‘The Princess and The Peas’

The Lexington Children’s Theatre will help to define what it means to be super with four performances of “The Princess and the Peas” on Jan. 25-26. This weekend’s showtimes are at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Jan. 25 and at 2 p.m. on Jan. 26. Sound Explorers

Sound Explorers, previously known as the Peanut Butter & Jelly Concert Series, returns to the Hummel Planetarium in Richmond from 2-3 p.m. on Jan. 25 featuring music from “Star Wars,” “Guardians of the Galaxy” “E.T.” performed by the Lexington Philharmonic, with projections of the moon and the stars as the backdrop of an out of this world experience. Chili Cook-Off

The American Heritage Girls will hold their 5th annual Chili Cook-Off at Cathedral of Christ the King on Jan. 26 from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Those looking to contribute their chili into the cook-off don’t need to worry about registering, but must bring their concoctions to the church’s Hehman Hall by noon in a crockpot with an extension cord and spoon. Bath Bomb Workshop

A taste of New Orleans will invade the Commonwealth on Jan. 26 with NOLA Sip & Paint, a New Orleans-inspired paint party, comes to Creaux from 2-5 p.m. The festive day party will feature gumbo and cajun corn dip with chips, a complimentary wine tasting by Markell-Bani Fine Wines, painting, live music, prizes and more. Lexington Music Awards

Over 30 categories spanning Central Kentucky’s music industry will be honored during the sixth annual Lexington Music Awards at the Lyric Theatre & Cultural Arts Center on Jan. 26 from 6-8 p.m. Lifetime Achievement Awards will be given out to the Lafayette High School Marching Band, the late Tony Briggs, Red Barn Radio’s Ed Commons and the UK Opera’s Everett McCorvey in addition to live performances during the awards from Ivy Rye, Phoebe White and house band the Mojo Tones. Chinese New Year Celebration
