Melissa Etheridge shows up for surprise performance at Lexington bar
Rocker Melissa Etheridge showed up at a Lexington bar and grill Friday night, and surprised attendees by performing with a local band.
The group, Hi-5, had announced ahead of their show that a “very special guest” would be joining them at The Cellar Bar & Grille in Lansdowne.
Videos from the performance posted on social media showed Etheridge belting out hits including “Come to My Window” and “I’m the Only One” as the audience sang along.
“I’ve been in Kentucky making some new music,” Etheridge said in one clip.
Hi-5 member Bill Torsell said in a Facebook post that the group’s guitarist and his wife have a relationship with Etheridge, and that the Grammy winner has been “in town working on new material.”
Etheridge, a Kansas City Chiefs fan, said in a tweet earlier in the week that the team’s Super Bowl win “was just like what I always dreamed it would be.”
She said in the tweet that she left the day after the Super Bowl “to start my new album in Kentucky.”
“We cannot thank Hi-5 enough for the amazing show they put on last night and surprising everyone by having Melissa Etheridge show up and sing some songs,” The Cellar said in a Facebook post.
Etheridge performed at the Lexington Opera House last August, while on tour for her album, “The Medicine Show.”
