Same time next year: Chris Stapleton concert at Kroger Field rescheduled

The latest coronavirus cancellation was announced Tuesday: Chris Stapleton’s April concert at Kroger Field is off.

The concert, which the Kentucky native said was on his “bucket list” of things to do, was scheduled for April 25.

But on Twitter he announced that the event has been rescheduled to April 24, 2021.

Stapleton and his wife, Morgane, said that in a tweet to “our Friends & Family in Kentucky, While we’d love nothing more than to see you all at Kroger Field next month, it is with everyone’s best interest in mind that we are rescheduling A Concert for Kentucky. ... This is not a decision we have taken lightly, and we’ve worked closely with the University of Kentucky and all artists involved to find the best date possible.”

He urged everyone to “please stay healthy at home.”

The bill for “A Concert for Kentucky,” at least for now, still includes Willie Nelson and Family, Sheryl Crow and Yola.

According to the announcement, tickets purchased for the 2020 event will be good for 2021; for other ticket inquiries, including refunds, contact your point of purchase.

Announced in October 2019, the event will be the first live concert held in the University of Kentucky football stadium.

Artists and venues around the country began announcing that concerts and performances were being canceled or postponed this month as the coronavirus began spreading throughout the country and around the world.

Now many artists have turned to streaming concerts online to keep in touch with fans.

According to his website, Stapleton is still scheduled to resume his tour in late April. The concert in Lexington was to benefit Chris and Morgane Stapleton’s Outlaw State of Kind Hometown Fund. Established in partnership with the Blue Grass Community Foundation, the fund will specifically support local and national organizations directly impacting Kentucky, with initial grant distributions focusing on music and arts education.
