The 13 best things to do in and around Lexington this weekend

Here is a Lexington list and guide of the best weekend events around Central Kentucky on Friday, Saturday and Sunday if you are bored and need things to do from live music concerts and festivals to comedy shows, the Keeneland Fall Meet, Fall festivals including an Oktoberfests, a theatre play and more.

The Moonshiner’s Ball music festival

The 7th annual Moonshiner’s Ball music festival will take place at Rockcastle Riverside in Livingston from Oct. 7-10 with music from Sam Bush, 49 Winchester, Nané, Abby Hamilton, Rainbow Girls, Magnolia Boulevard and more. Music begins 11 a.m. on Oct. 8, 9 and 10. The event will feature food trucks, craft vendors and a kid’s activity tent on-site along with yoga, hooping, a memorial drum circle (in honor of Todd Copeland) and more. Etta May at Comedy Off Broadway

Keeneland Fall Meet back with fans

The Keeneland Fall Meet returns for 2021 with fans. Last year’s October meet was held without fans because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Keeneland will celebrate it’s 85 year anniversary during this month’s Fall Meet kicking off with Fall Stars Weekend from Oct. 8-10. The weekend will consist of 10 stakes races, nine of which are graded, worth $3.65 million. Five of those races are Grade 1 events and nine of them are Breeders’ Cup Challenge races, “Win and You’re In” contests that award the winners berths into corresponding races for the World Championships at Del Mar on Nov. 4 and 5. The Fall Meet runs through Oct. 30 with first post each day at 1 p.m. Tickets start at $7. 4201 Versailles Rd. Keeneland.com.

Freaky Friday Flicks at Masterson Station Park

Watch Disney’s 2012 animated flick “Frankenweenie” under the stars during Lexington Parks & Recreation’s free-to-attend “Freaky Friday Flicks” at Masterson Station Park every Friday evening in October. Activities begin at 6 p.m. with a Monster Mash dance party followed by the movie at 7:30 p.m. A kid’s costume contest will also take place. 3051 Leestown Rd. LexingtonKy.gov.

Parker McCollum concert at Manchester Music Hall

Texas-born musician Parker McCollum will perform at Manchester Music Hall on Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. The artist will likely perform “Pretty Heart,” “To Be Loved By You” and other songs from “Gold Chain Cowboy,” his debut album. Tickets are currently sold out. 899 Manchester St. ManchesterMusicHall.com.

Leeds Center for the Arts: ‘Our Town’

The Leeds Center for the Arts in Winchester will present a production of Thornton Wilder’s classic play “Our Town” from Oct. 8-10 and Oct. 17-19. Directed by Mark Mozingo and featuring a cast of twenty actors from Central Kentucky, the play is a celebration of how the small moments in our lives shape who we are, who we love and how we live. UK Tree Week

The UK College of Agriculture, Food and Environment’s Urban Forest Initiative will host its fourth annual Tree Week from Oct. 9-16 in Berea, Georgetown, Hazard, Paducah and Lexington. South Elkhorn Christian Church Fall Festival

Sig Luscher Brewery’s Oktoberfest
