‘Black Lives Matter: 1619 to Now’ at the Singletary Center for the Arts
The UK Department of Theatre and Dance will present “Black Lives Matter: 1619 to Now” at the Singletary Center for the Arts’ Guignol Theatre on Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. The documentary drama curated by UK faculty artists and scholars looks at the formal Black Lives Matter that started 10 years ago following Trayvon Martin’s death as well as the years, decades, centuries of civil rights activism leading up to it. Sidney Poitier Film Series at the Lyric Theatre
The Lyric Theatre will present 1961 musical romantic drama “Paris Blues” as part of it’s Sidney Poitier Film Series on Feb. 27 at 2:30 p.m. The movie follows two Black jazz musicians living in Paris, where jazz music is celebrated and racism is a non-issue. When they meet and fall for two American girls, they have to decide if they want to go back to the States with them or stay where they have more freedom.
