American Idol winner and Kentucky native Noah Thompson will perform at state fair

American Idol season 20 winner and Kentuckian Noah Thompson will perform at the Kentucky State Fair this August, the state fair recently announced.

Thompson, who is from Louisa in Lawrence County, will open for Kentuckians John Michael Montgomery and Walker Montgomery on Aug. 24. Admission into the concert, along with the other shows in the Texas Roadhouse Concert Series, are included with general admission tickets into the fair.

The fair is set to take place at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville. from Aug. 18-28. Tickets are available at kystatefair.org.

Thompson made a name for himself when he became the first performer from Kentucky to win American Idol. Thompson impressed judges throughout the season with his country vocals, but also stepped outside of his comfort zone at times while performing songs by Rihanna, Harry Styles and John Mayer.

Thompson worked as a construction worker before entering the reality singing competition. A co-worker signed him up for the show.

Thompson said it’s hard to describe the feeling he had when he heard his name called during the finale.
