Best Bets: Last holiday shows, ‘Last Comic Standing’ and more
Call it short attention span ballet. Each year, the Bluegrass Youth Ballet rolls out its Nutcracker in One Act, a shortened edition of the ballet classic for those who may not be ready for the full-length show or may want a condensed version for their busy holiday schedules. But don’t worry, they still hit all the highlights. Performances are at 7 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday in the Singletary Center for the Arts Concert Hall, 405 Rose Street. Tickets are $15-$18. Rod Man at Comedy Off Broadway
Fans of NBC talent competition show Last Comic Standing will recognize Rod Man as last season’s winner. This weekend, he brings his show to Comedy Off Broadway, 161 Lexington Green Circle, for four shows this weekend, 7:15 and 9:45 p.m. Friday and Saturday. ‘Home for the Holiday’ Saturday
For the second consecutive year, the Anthany and Eunice Beatty Foundation is presenting Home for the Holiday, a three-act play with music celebrating the family, fun and faith that make the season what it is. There are two shows at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday at the Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center, 300 East Third Street. Orchestra to make debut
The Lexington Chamber Orchestra will make its debut at 3 p.m. Sunday at Tates Creek Presbyterian Church, 3900 Rapid Run Drive, with a performance of Arcangelo Corelli’s Christmas Concerto, Edvard Grieg’s Holberg Suite and more under the direction of Jan Pallant. Admission is free.
