Popular Lexington summer movie series returns with more classics

A popular summer event in Lexington is coming back with more films, including salutes to recent Hollywood legends lost.

The Kentucky Theatre Summer Classics series, a 30-plus year tradition, will kick off its 2026 series on May 20.

The series will feature classic films at 1:30 and 7:15 p.m. every Wednesday through Sept. 9 at the historic downtown Lexington theater at 214 E Main St. Tickets are $8, and it's wise to purchase in advance online.

The theater said it added two more films this year. The schedule of classic films includes four influential movies from Hollywood icons who died recently, including Diane Keaton, Rob Reiner, Robert Redford and Gene Hackman.

The Kentucky Theatre will show 17 classic movies during the event, and like usual, it will end with the popular showing of “The Big Lebowski.”

The Kentucky Theatre will host its popular Summer Classics Series starting May 20. The movie festival will feature 17 classic, iconic movies.
