George Clooney Says Callum Turner Would Make the ‘Perfect' James Bond

The new James Bond has yet to be announced - but George Clooney thinks it should be Callum Turner.

"I hope Callum ends up being the next Bond. I think he would be a great Bond," Clooney, 65, told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published on Wednesday, June 10. "He's tall and handsome and charming and British, so he's the perfect guy to do it."

Clooney has some experience working alongside Turner, 36, whom he directed in the 2023 movie The Boys in the Boat.

"He hasn't just gone for the easy paychecks - he's done really interesting work," Clooney said, praising the young actor. "Somehow Callum has weaved his way through all of the noise and found a place where people look at him and go, ‘There's something with this young man.' It's exciting to watch people saying, ‘That guy - that's a guy I want to follow and pay attention to.'"

Rumors regarding who will take over for Daniel Craig in the iconic film franchise have been swirling for years. Turner's name has been pushed to the top of the list, but the actor has nothing to say about the speculation or possible role.

"I know as much as you do - really, I know as much as you do," Turner told THR. When asked if he's interested in taking on the role, the actor responded, "I'm not going to comment on that."

Amazon MGM announced last month that casting for the new Bond was officially underway.

"While we don't plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we're excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right," the studio said in a statement at the time. Denis Villeneuve, of Dune fame, is set to direct the film - the first in the franchise since 2021.

Turner wouldn't discuss the Bond of it all directly, so THR tried another way in when interviewing the British star. The publication asked Turner for his list of dream directors - and the Eternity star saw right through it.

"You want me to say Denis?" Turner quipped, confirming that Villeneuve, 58, is on the list. (As are Christopher Nolan, Paul Thomas Anderson, Savanah Leaf and Charlotte Regan.)

"I'll tell you what's so funny about the Bond thing: Even your best friends ask you, people text you that you haven't spoken to for 10 years - and you know nothing!" Turner said during Wednesday's interview. "It's such a weird thing of something happening and nothing happening at all. I genuinely know nothing. I just find it quite amusing."
