Inside Taylor Sheridan's Life Outside of the Spotlight After Leaving L.A.
Taylor Sheridan found immense success after making the switch from acting to screenwriting - but he eventually moved out of Los Angeles.
Sheridan originally explored a career as an actor with roles on Veronica Mars, Sons of Anarchy and more. He pivoted to writing scripts for movies, including Sicario, Hell or High Water and Wind River.
The producer's focus later shifted to the small screen, which paved the way for Yellowstone‘s success. The hit series aired from 2018 to 2024 as viewers tuned in to keep tabs on the fictional Dutton family. Sheridan has also worked on original shows Landman, Lioness, Tulsa King and more.
News broke in October 2025 that Sheridan closed a major with NBCUniversal. The five-year overall deal for film, TV and streaming will begin January 1, 2029, after Sheridan's TV deal with Paramount - which goes through 2028 - officially ends.
Paramount will retain the rights to Yellowstone and the other franchises Sheridan created under his deal with the company, so he is expected to create a brand new IP for NBCUniversal. Sheridan's move came after Paramount's merger with Skydance.
Sheridan, for his part, has largely remained out of the public eye despite his successful career. Keep scrolling at a glimpse into Sheridan's life after he moved out of Los Angeles:
How Did Taylor Sheridan's Career Start?
Similar to his characters, Sheridan has preferred life outside of California. He currently lives near Fort Worth, Texas, with another place in Wyoming - and he has no plans on heading back to Los Angeles.
"I've made it pretty clear that the only way you're getting me back to Los Angeles is if it secedes from the Union and I'm drafted into the Army to take it back," Sheridan said on a June episode of "The Bill Simmons Podcast," adding, "It's the only way."
Sheridan said his dislike for Los Angeles didn't extend to other major cities, including New York City.
"I love New York," he added. "That city's way, way stronger than whatever political wind is blowing it in any direction, right? Whereas Los Angeles is built on sand. It ain't strong. There's no foundation there."
Why Did Taylor Sheridan Step Away From L.A.?
In order to focus on his work, Sheridan opted for somewhere more peaceful and quiet outside of California. The producer, who shares a son with wife Nicole Muirbrook, has worked on original shows that allowed production to take place in various locations throughout the American West, including ranches.
Cast members from Sheridan's shows previously spoke about how some of them have met with Sheridan - but others never have.
"It's funny. I was talking with some of the cast of his other shows, and at least in my experience, Taylor's like the man behind the curtain," Arielle Kebbel, who stars in Yellowstone spinoff Marshals, told People in 2026. "No one ever sees him. The man is busy. So I actually have not met him."
Has Taylor Sheridan Made Any Rare Appearances?
After briefly playing Travis Wheatley on Yellowstone, Sheridan has opted to stay off camera. He has also largely not attended red carpet events for his new shows - except The Madison.
"I can't stand these things," he quipped at a public event in May 2026. "So for me to be at one means I'm really proud of the project, which I am."
He continued: "It's pretty arrogant for a bunch of people to stand up here and congratulate themselves before you've seen the thing that they're congratulating themselves for. But we think it's worth it. We'll take the risk."
